Please Sign Petition for New York Child Victims Act Today!
Companions in Hope strongly supports the New York Child Victims Act. Please read below a letter from New York Assemblywoman and bill author Marge Markey and then click on the link to show your support for better laws and stronger protections for children.
Dear Friends:
I want to thank you for supporting the New York Child Victims Act and am writing to ask you to speak out once more about the importance of the bill by signing a new on-line petition sponsored by the New York Coalition to Protect Children, one of our most active supporters. Your will find the petition at www.nychildvictimsact.org <http://www.nychildvictimsact.org/>.
Adoption of this bill will bring justice to victims of childhood sexual abuse and expose predators who continue to abuse children. I have diligently worked over the past five years for its passage and know that the vocal support of individuals and organizations is critical if we are to achieve passage of the legislation this year.
Please take the opportunity to log into the website and “sign” the petition. It is important that legislators throughout the state know that New Yorkers want to see this bill become law this year. Signing the petition --- and urging your friends, colleagues and family members to also log on and sign it --- is important if we are to make the Child Victims Act a law in 2009.
Sincerely, Marge Markey
Member of Assembly, 30^th District
PS – Please go to this web site now to sign the petition: www.nychildvictimsact.org <http://www.nychildvictimsact.org/>
"Congress may not take away the right of peaceful assembly (gathering of people). Riots or mobs may be broken up, since they are not peaceful. The right of petitioning the government for any redress (correction) wanted made by it or any grievance (complaint) made against it, may not be suspended."
Those are the words of our framers in the First Amendment of the United States Constitution. For that reason, we will, as we see a need arise, petition our government and any other appropriate entities to advocate for laws and policies that protect the rights of children and honor the civil rights of all American citizens.
If any of our fellow Companions and Advocates would like to write a petition, we will be happy to post it on this page and assist in any way we can to gain support for a just cause related to the protection of our vulnerable citizens and the rights victims of abuse and/or assault. Please submit any petitions to our contact information below.
Any new Petitions will also be announced on the Bulletin Board.
